About the Winter Polar Bear Invitational: The Countryside YMCA Polar Bear Invitational originally started as a Short Course Meter (SCM) meet in 1982 as the  1st Annual Winter Polar Bear Invitational.  The Winter Invitational continued as a SCM meet until 2002. The 21st Annual CY Winter Polar Bear was the first Short Course Yards (SCY) meet and was held December 6-8, 2002. 

About the Summer Polar Bear Invitational: In 1986, the CY Polar Bear Invitational expanded to include a Summer edition.  Like the Winter version, the Summer Polar Bear Invitational was conducted as a SCM meet, which also continued until 2002.  The 17th Annual CY Summer Polar Bear Invitational was the first Long Course Meters (LCM) meet and was held on June 29-30, 2002.  An interesting fact about the Summer Polar Bear series is that prior to 2001, it included summer league teams and not just YMCA teams.  As such, you will see early meet records from teams from Oxford, Three Centuries, Beckett Ridge, Landen and others.
